Keeping the Territory Moving

The Land Development Corporation (LDC) is proud to be associated with the NT Road Transport Association (NTRTA) in the planning and design of the Road Train Assembly Area (RTAA).The LDC and the NTRTA have worked closely over the last few years to find the right site for the new Road Train Assembly Area. The NTRTA has been an integral part of the RTAA design process bringing industry expertise to the table to ensure a "fit for purpose facility".

The NTRTA and the LDC has also worked in close collaboration with the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics to secure $9.65m of Australian Government grant funding via the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program. The grant along with contributions from the LDC and NT Government, allows for delivery of the RTAA and an adjoining Heavy Vehicle Inspection Facility being centre pieces of the Truck Central estate.

Louise Bilato, Executive Officer of the NTRTA said, "The Road Train Assembly Area will be an integral piece of the infrastructure puzzle. This will be a valuable asset for the heavy vehicle transport sector and will provide a purpose-built facility for the safe parking and configuration of Road Trains at the cross roads of the Top End's major transport routes".

The internal layout of the RTAA provides over 17 parking bays for triple road trains, a further 11 wider bays for reconfiguration and assembly of trailers plus an additional 28 bays for smaller configurations such as B-doubles, semi-trailers, prime movers and dolly parking. A loading ramp for the stacking of trailers will also be available.

The RTAA will be supported by rest and fatigue management amenities at the adjoining roadhouse and CCTV surveillance.

A Development Application for the construction of the 3.2 hectare Road Train Assembly Area at Truck Central came off public exhibition on 9 February 2018 and is pending approval. Ostojic Group, as developer of Truck Central, plan to coordinate construction of the facility from April 2018, allowing for the RTAA to be open for business with the wider estate in December 2018.
